Mess Time!!

Well, Cheyenne has entered a new phase of infancy. Now that she is 4 months old, her doctor told me I could start feeding her cereal mixed with formula twice a day.

As expected, the first time didn't go well and was dubbed unsucessful....even though she was showing all of the signs on the readiness checklist...

So I waited a few days and tried again. It went much better. She is wanting to suck the cereal off the spoon rather than really opening her mouth and taking a bite. Every once in a while she will open her mouth and actually take a bite, so she is getting better and improves every day.

She really seems to like her cereal. Even though she isn't eating it quite the right way yet, when she does take a bite or sucks it off the spoon, she will swallow it and smack her lips or suck her lips to get the rest of it off. For now I am just giving her cereal twice a day followed by a bottle and then her regular bottles throughout the day. I am getting ready to start giving her 5 oz. bottles instead of 4 oz. When she finishes the 4 oz. bottles, she cries because it is gone. I think she needs just a little bit more. She has been eating the same amount for 2 months now. Dr. Raj said to wait until about 6 months before giving her the fruits and vegetables and starting baby food. That will be here before I know it...

She is getting so big so fast and is constantly changing and growing. She is constantly smiling and laughing and is just such a happy baby!!

Cheyenne's 4 month checkup

Well, today was a bittersweet day. Cheyenne had her 4 month checkup today and we were able to go back to Dr. Raj, who is the doctor that Cheyenne saw up until she was 2 months old. I absolutely love her!! She is so sweet and wonderful with Cheyenne and she is the kind of doctor that makes you feel like your child is her favorite or only patient. That's the kind of doctor everyone should have.

When she came in the room, she said "Cheyenne!! I am so glad you are back!! I have missed you so much!!" She said how precious and beautiful she was and before we left she was loving on Cheyenne and she said "I love you baby girl" She always holds and loves on her when we go in for a visit and I just love that!!

Anyway, on to the visit...

Cheyenne is absolutely perfect!! Dr. Raj said she looks great and is right in line with everything for her age. She weighs 15 lb. 3.4 oz. which is in about the 80th percentile. Her length is 1' 11.43" which is in about the 15 to 20th percentile. And her head circumference is 16.54" which is in about the 75th percentile. So she is exactly where she should be!! Dr. Raj was very pleased with her size and her development. She was actually surprised that Cheyenne skipped turning from tummy to back and started with back to tummy.

She said to start giving rice cereal twice a day and to hold off on pureed vegetables and fruits until about 6 months.

She did get 4 vaccinations today. She got 3 shots and 1 oral vaccine. She cried when she got the shots, but as soon as it was over, she stopped crying. She was such a good girl.

So we go back in 2 months for her 6 month visit. She will get more vaccinations and be able to start baby food other than cereal. We'll see how she changes between now and then.

Cheyenne's New Bed

Cheyenne finally has a big girl bed!! We got her a crib last weekend and then got all the bedding for it!! It is so cute!

She had been sleeping in the bassinet on the pack and play since she was born, but she recently hit 15 lbs so she had to come out of the bassinet. She was sleeping in the bottom of the pack and play for a few days but wasn't sleeping as well. We finally got her crib and she sleeps so much better. As a matter of fact, last night she slept 8 1/2 hours last night!! It was wonderful!! That means Mommy got some decent sleep too!!

She is so cute in her new bed and she loves it!!

She is getting so big so fast!! She loves the crib mirror I got her. She lays there and looks at herself and talks to herself and it is so cute!!

Cheyenne's 4 month "birthday"

Well, Cheyenne is 4 months old today!! I can't believe it...Monday will be 18 weeks...sometimes it seems like no time at all and other times it seems like it has been longer than 18 weeks.

She is getting so big and growing and learning every day. She is playing with her feet all the time and loves to laugh!! She is such a happy baby!!

She is really studying things now...she will lay there or sit there and really study her hands and fingers and watch them move. She is reaching out to my face and feeling my face and playing with my mouth. She loves to look at her toys and study them. She is reaching out for toys or anything nearby and picking them up. She is starting to smile and react when she hears certain words or names.

There is some really big news to report this month...Cheyenne is teething!! She has been for about 2 weeks or so...she has been fussy and running just a bare elevated temperature of about 99 degrees off and on. She is drooling a lot more than she has been. Remember she has produced a lot of saliva and drooled since she was born. But now she is really drooling sucking and chewing on things, and her gums are a little swollen and I can see two little nuggets on the bottom where her two bottom teeth will be. She has been like this for about 2 weeks and today I looked and saw just under the skin, the white of two little teeth getting ready to poke through her gums. It is so cute and I hate that she is going through so much trouble. Luckily she is not having an diarrhea..at least not yet...But she also had reddened cheeks which I read is also a sign of teething. This teething is all new to me...Devon had no problems at all when he was teething. He wasn't fussy, didn't have fever, diarrhea or anything...I just started seeing teeth coming through. He was a breeze...I'm just so excited that Cheyenne is teething...it's so cute.

Cheyenne also had another major milestone today...she turned over from her back to her tummy!!! Right on her 4 month birthday!! They are supposed to go from tummy to back first and then about a month later, go from back to tummy..Cheyenne doesn't like being on her tummy, so we weren't able to work on tummy to back until here recently. We are still working on it, but she rolled from her back to her tummy today and then actually tried to roll on back over to her back but her arm was in the way and she couldn't...we will continue to work on that. The funny thing about it is that from then on, she would get on her tummy and play for a couple of minutes and then she would get upset, so I would turn her back over on to her back and she would immediately roll back over. Every time I out her on her back after that, she would turn right back over.

She is starting to push up on her elbows when she is on her tummy and tonight after she would roll onto her tummy, she would pull her legs up and tuck her knees under her and try to push up on them. Earlier today, she would push up on her toes and lift her legs and hips off the ground while she was on her tummy. She is beginning to realize that she can move in different ways and make different things move. This morning, before she turned over, she was laying on her back and arching her back and lifting her bottom off the ground. She is just so cute and learning so many different things. She is growing so fast and getting more precious and beautiful every day.... She has her 4 month check-up next week and we get to go back to the doctor that she saw up until she turned 2 months old. I really like that doctor and am so excited to get to go back to her. I'll post again after her check up!!
