Feed the Birds Playdate

We had a fun playdate this morning that I think was just as fun for the moms as it was for the kids.  We made bird feeders this morning and the kids had fun playing and snacking before we got to the craft.

Cheyenne had a good time for a few minutes putting the peanut butter on the cone, then I took over so we could get it done this week.

Then we rolled the peanut butter covered cones in sunflower seeds and rice krispies to complete our bird feeders.

Cheyenne is so proud of her bird feeder and can't wait to hang it up.

After the bird feeders were done, we had a good time just sitting down visiting and catching up with one of the moms we haven't seen in a while and it was nice that the kids just played so well while we sat around a visited... and ate some peanut butter on popsicle sticks dipped in the sunflower seeds and rice krispies and commented that the birds are going to love these bird feeders because they were pretty good!

We love our playdates!!

Zoe's Second Birthday

I can't believe how time flies and our kiddos grow up so fast.  I can't believe Cheyenne will be 3 in about 3 months and I'm not ready for it.

We went down to Austin this weekend to celebrate my niece Zoe's second birthday and it was so fun and amazing to see how she is growing up just as fast as the rest of them.  She's not the little cute baby who just kinda sits around and observes everything going on around her that she used to be.

She is a beautiful little girl with a mind of her own and she makes it known.  She is growing into a little girl and growing out of the baby stage even though she is so small, at least compared to Cheyenne who is only 9 months older.

We had so much fun at the party, despite the 50 degree weather.  It was chilly but of course, the kids didn't notice the cold as much as we did.

I guess jumping on the table benches is a good warm up for all of the playing that would ensue.

There was rock climbing.....

There was some playing on a huge standing see-saw.  Yes I was freaking out!!

Then it was time to sing Happy Birthday to the birthday girl.  This was what she did while we sang to her.  She knew this day was all about her!

Then it was time for cupcakes...Oh how we love cupcakes...at least the frosting.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to take a picture of 4 toddlers?  It's not that easy.  For some reason, they don't like to stand still.  I swear, once they know you push the button to take the picture, they think it's funny to move.  But these cousins love each other so much and always have such a great time!

All in all, we had a great time and the next day was present day and Zoe got to open all of her presents (and share them with her sisters and cousin) and then we had some outside fun since it was warmer weather than the day before.

This girl, like all the rest of them, is crazy about her Grandpa.  She sees Grandpa and reaches for him every time.  She thought Grandpa's hat was pretty cool and had to try it on.

Happy second birthday Zoe!  You are growing up so fast along with the rest of them.

I can't wait to go back next month to celebrate Rachel & Claire's 4th birthday.  It all goes by so fast!

Hello Kitty and Mardi Gras...Fun Playdates!!

We have had a couple of really fun playdates over the last week and Cheyenne had so much fun and was so adorable!!

Last Friday, we went to a Hello Kitty playdate at our friend Vanessa's house.  Vanessa always does such a good job setting up her playdates and everything is always so adorable.

After a little playtime, the girls decorated Hello Kitty hats and they were so cute!!

Then they had a snack followed by more playtime.

Each little girl got a goody bag to take home with Hello Kitty goodies in it.  Cheyenne got a Hello Kitty notebook, lip gloss, nail polish and pez dispenser.  She absolutely loves the pez dispenser and is always wanting to put candy in it.  I guess I'll have to keep her supplied with Pez.  :)

On Fat Tuesday, we had a Mardi Gras playdate and it was so cute as usual, even though Cheyenne was in rare form.  She was fussy and cranky, so much so that one of the other moms said that was unlike Cheyenne, she'd never seen her that upset.  I think it has a lot to do with the fact that she is getting 3 molars in all at the same time.
The kids all had a snack and got a mask and Cheyenne loved her mask!!

Then we all made Mardi Gras floats, which ended up being the moms making them and the kids helped embellish for a minute or two whenever they could take a break from playing.  But it was fun and they all turned out so cute!!

Then we had a little Mardi Gras parade with our floats.

So we've had a fun week or so and have a lot more fun playdates coming up!!  Cheyenne loves going to playdates and seeing her friends and I am so glad that she is developing good friendships with the kids in our group, even if there are skirmishes and tantrums once in a while, they are to be expected with 2 and 3 year olds.  I am also so grateful for the awesome moms in this group that I am developing some wonderful friendships with too!!

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Being single, Valentine's Day is not one of my favorite holidays, but I have 2 of the best valentines I could ever ask for, so I don't cry over what I don't have anymore, but I am grateful for what I do have.

That said, Cheyenne had her first Valentine's Day party this morning with our awesome playgroup!  It was a lot of fun and each child (maily mommies with a little help from the kiddos) got to make valentine containers for their valentines.

Then the kiddos got to eat some lunch/snacks and have some playtime before passing out valentines.

Cheyenne had such a good time and it was good to see so many of our friends again!

Miraculously, Cheyenne made the trip home from Forney without falling asleep in the car even though it was naptime.  So we got home and she went down for her nap a little later than normal, but she took a good nap.

When she got up, I surprised her with her Valentine's Day basket!

Lady & the Tramp, A Bee Movie, Open Season 2, candy, hair bow, beanie baby & dry erase markers

She thought her lip pop was so awesome!!  She loved it!!

All in all, it was a great Valentine's Day and after the Valentine's Day loot, we went to pick up Devon to spend the night and we all went to eat a yummy dinner at our neighborhood Tex-Mex restaurant behind our house.  It was yummy!!

What a great Valentine's Day!!

Happy Valentine's Day!!

We Made Homemade Play Dough!!

Today was a glimpse into my future as Cheyenne had to skip naptime today in order to go to a doctor's appointment at 3:00.  Everything is fine, she just has had a yeast infection that has been coming and going for a while and the over the counter medicine the doctor recommended wasn't working so we had to go in and let her look at it and she gave us a prescription for the stronger cream to put on it.  She got up a little later than normal, so there was no putting her down a little early for a short nap...I just knew that wasn't going to happen, so I didn't even try.

So in order to keep her occupied, out of trouble and compliant while we waited to go to the doctor's appointment, we made some play dough.  Again, Pinterest is to blame...I have found so many fun activites and crafts for us to do and I have found several play dough recipes and picked one today to try.  What I liked about this recipe is that it is a no-cook recipe.  A lot of the play dough recipes I have come across have to be cooked at one point or another.  This one was so easy and Cheyenne actually helped me make it.

No-Cook Play Dough
Recipe from:Dirt & Boogers

2 cups four
1 cup salt
2 tbsps cream of tartar
2 tbsps oil
1.5-2 cups boiling water
food coloring

*Combine all dry ingredients together and then add oil.

*Pour in water and mix and knead with hands. It will loose it’s stickiness and form a nice ball of dough.

* You can add glitter or a fragrance to make it more fun. Also a few drops of glycerin makes the dough stretchy and shiny.

**Lori's Note**
If you are going to use food coloring to color your play dough, I would suggest adding it to the boiling water before mixing the water into the dry ingredients.  I mixed it all and then added the food coloring and my hands are still red!!

This was a fun project and Cheyenne had a blast and said "This is so much fun!!"  She was especially excited that she got to help.  This makes a pretty big batch so you may want to half it.  I divided it into 2 parts and added glitter to one part and left one part just plain pink.

Cheyenne immediately took some in to her table and got to work playing with it.  I gave her some Valentine's cookie cutters that we had gotten at Target's dollar spot and she had a blast making hearts, Xs and Os.

I have to admit that I love this play dough.  It is so soft and squishy and doesn't seem to dry out as quickly as store bought play dough.  We put it up when we went to the doctor and when I got back, I saw a piece laying on the floor under her table that we had missed, so  I picked it up expecting to have to throw it away, but it was just as soft and squishy as when we made it.

We will definitely be making more batches and colors of this play dough.  I also like that it doesn't have all the junk in it that store bought play dough has.

Let me know if you try this!  We love it!  I even sat here this afternoon playing with a piece of it for a while.  But then again, I love play dough period!  I could sit and play with play dough all day long.

Enjoy!!
